The Frettertalrunde, a regional cycle tour, is characterized by its circular route character and starts in Lenhausen. The course along the Fretterbach stream through the Frettertal valley characterizes the first phase of the route, which is predominantly uphill. This initial elevation gain is followed by a rewarding descent that leads via the pumped storage plant to Rönkhausen. There is an optional extension at Fehrenbracht to the Fledermaustunnel, a well-known station on the SauerlandRadring. The route continues from Fehrenbracht uphill towards Schliprüthen and Weuspert to the junction of the pumped storage plant. At this point, there are two alternatives: either the tour is completed directly via Schönholthausen to Lenhausen, or the route continues to the lower reservoir and then back to Lenhausen via Rönkhausen. There are also various places to stop for refreshments along the tour.

Author Tip

The "Energy Trail", a 1.3-kilometre circular route around the upper reservoir of the Rönkhausen pumped storage plant, is very interesting. Information boards show visitors how the technology for generating electricity works as an energy storage facility.
