The 50-hectare fen between the confluence of the Ahse and Woestebach rivers is one of the last remaining calcareous fens in the region. The varied mosaic of shallow water and flood zones with ponds, reedbeds and wet grassland has developed into an important habitat for animals and plants, a real magnet for birds. The observation point offers a fantastic view of the birdlife and the impressive water buffalo that keep the area open.

The region around Bad Sassendorf presents a largely flat but diverse landscape that makes for relaxed cycling. The route leads through the fertile Börd landscape, past farms and historic villages. Colorful meadows and idyllic rivers characterize the picture, complemented by old alleys with typical Westphalian half-timbered houses, which invite you to discover nature. The "North Loop" connects the Bad Sassendorf districts of Bettinghausen and Ostinghausen as well as the centrally located "Woeste" moorland and nature reserve. Rare bird species can be observed in this area with binoculars. A striking element of the landscape are the water buffaloes, which are natural landscape conservationists in the "Woeste" and optimally adapt to the specific moor conditions. Information boards in the nature reserve visualize the diversity of the local flora and fauna. A themed tour is provided via QR codes. The return route runs in a wider arc along the Ahse and on the edge of Soest. After the cycle tour, cafés and restaurants, the Börde Therme spa and the spa gardens offer opportunities to relax. Alternatively, the Westphalian Salt Worlds adventure museum invites you to explore the secrets of the white gold. After the tour, facilities such as a low ropes course, a barefoot path and adventure areas along the Rosenau and adventure golf are available in the spa gardens. Various gastronomic offerings complete the experience. The Bad Sassendorf North Loop can be connected to the South Loop.
