Directions

The tour leads towards the end of the village past the REWE/Lidl supermarkets up to the Hoher Eimberg. There we follow the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse on a beautiful hilly trail to the Hukeshohl farm. Here we leave tour no. 1 and continue up the mountain range in the direction of Diemelsee. We cross the main Bontkirchen/Hoppecke road and continue uphill. When the gravel path goes slightly downhill, we leave the path and keep right onto a trail. We follow this straight ahead until we come to an open field on the left. The next crossroads is Buttenberg, where we turn left for 20 m and then right again past a refuge, still staying at the top. At the next junction, take a gravel road up to the right and then a long descent down to the foot of the Diemel dam. On the fast descent, you can catch your first glimpse of the Diemelsee. We cross the small reservoir and cycle up the serpentine X-path. On the way, we have a great panoramic trail along the precipice with a view of the lake. Another border trail takes us to the St. Muffert refuge. At the hut, we keep to the left, the trail widens and just before we reach the fields, a singletrail downhill leads down to the lake by an electricity pylon. We cycle through the village of Heringhausen to get to the other side of the lake and ride along the lake. There is an old railing on the right. Then a path leads up to the left at a small angle, running almost parallel and only slowly moving away from the Diemelsee. We follow it straight ahead until we cross a road again at the top. Now it's a leisurely criss-cross ride up to the Dommel tower, then back to the parking lot at the Dommel tower and we cycle above the Diemel valley through the Aartal back to Willingen-Stryck.

Equipment

We recommend functional, weather-appropriate cycling clothing, rucksack provisions, sufficient fluids (water, tea), air pump, repair kit and multi-tool.
