Starting from Bremberg, the route runs along the Kurweg in the direction of Altastenberg. The route in this section requires careful cycling as it is also frequented by pedestrians. After Altastenberg, the traffic decreases and the route leads to the Großer Bildchen. The section before the Großer Bildchen has a significant gradient. The route then leads through the Nordenau forest, downhill to Nordenau and over a ridge to the lowest point of the tour in Westfeld. There you have the option of stopping for refreshments. From this point onwards, the route climbs steadily; initially moderately along the Lenne, followed by a more challenging climb at Hoher Knochen. At the summit of the Kahler Asten, the Kurweg is reached again, which leads back to Winterberg.

Equipment

Wearing a bicycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists. Before setting off, check that your bike is in perfect condition. For demanding tours, we recommend packing plenty of drinks and snacks.

Author Tip

A detour to the Kahler Asten and the beautiful view from the most famous mountain in the Sauerland is highly recommended.

Public transit

You can usually reach Winterberg quickly and easily by train. From Hagen, for example, there are connections every hour, from Kassel every 2 hours. The journey from Dortmund to Winterberg and vice versa takes just 104 minutes. Six times per working day or twelve times on Saturday or Sunday. Information about the door-to-door luggage service is available at all DB sales outlets.

From the north: A7 Hamburg-Hannover - A2 Bielefeld - A33 Paderborn - exit Wünnenberg, direction Brilon > Olsberg > Winterberg


From the south: A5 Frankfurt-Giessen - exit Marburg, direction Allendorf > Winterberg


From the west: A44 Dortmund-Kassel - exit Werl junction, direction A46 Arnsberg > Meschede > Bestwig > Olsberg > Winterberg


From the east: A44 Kassel-Dortmund - exit Zierenberg, direction B251 Korbach > Medebach > Winterberg

Parking

You will find plenty of parking spaces at the Bremberg parking lot, otherwise drive a little further towards the town, where you will find various other parking spaces.
