Gravel - Through the Medebach Bay No.7

The Medebach Bay presents itself as a striking landscape formation, which is sometimes referred to as the "Tuscany of the Sauerland" in a regional context due to its generally milder weather and lower rainfall. The Medebach Bay European bird sanctuary, an area of high ecological relevance, extends within this area. It is home to a rich biodiversity with rare and sometimes endangered bird species such as the red kite, grey-headed woodpecker and red-backed shrike. This is complemented by a diverse plant world, particularly in the characteristic mountain meadows and smooth oat meadows. Gravel bike tour no. 7 is a regional circular route that starts in Medebach. The route leads eastwards, initially into the Aartal valley, with an initial ascent to contend with. Along the route, the fish ponds offer an opportunity to stop for refreshments. The route continues through extensive fields to Goddelsheim, from where the paths lead back to the Aar in Münden. Finally, the tour passes the farms of Roninghausen, crosses the Orke and makes a moderate ascent through agricultural land to return to Medebach. The route is designed to be family-friendly and therefore offers an accessible nature experience for a variety of cyclists.

Wearing a bicycle helmet should be a matter of course for all cyclists. Before setting off, check that your bike is in perfect condition. For demanding tours, we recommend packing plenty of drinks and snacks.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer district, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the South Westphalia cycle network.
