Following straightening and drainage, the upper and middle reaches of the Möhne valley have been renaturalized by a European nature conservation project. The upper section of the Möhne is now characterized by gravel banks, deep swirl holes and bank erosions, which create a natural, winding course. Kingfishers, dippers and the occasional black stork can be observed here. The rich flora, characterized by snake meadow knotweed and meadowsweet, attracts numerous insects in spring and summer and offers opportunities to stop for refreshments along this regional cycle tour.
