The mountain bike tour "Around Kallenhardt No. 40" opens up the diverse forest landscapes of the Rüthen, Brilon and Kallenhardt forests. Striking points on the route include the Hohler Stein natural monument and the characteristic heathland on the way back.
The route starts at the church in Kallenhardt and heads west along Burgtorstraße, past the elementary school and the historic town hall. The route then heads downhill towards Körtlinghausen Castle; there is an opportunity to visit the estate. However, the actual tour first leads to the right into the Glenne valley and climbs along agricultural paths to the so-called "Eulenspiegel". After crossing the L 776, the route heads southwards along the high ground of the Kalvarienberg. After crossing the Glenne again in the upper part of the valley, the path ascends before turning right onto the contour lines of the Sudlindenkopf and the Brilonsche Kopf. After a sharp bend, the path briefly runs downstream. At the underpass of the L 776, the route branches off to the west and follows a side valley that leads up into the Kallenhardt forest. Beyond the spring area, the path leads north to the edge of the forest and accompanies it westwards to the "Hoher Stein" nature reserve. At the edge of the impressive juniper heath is the culturally and historically relevant natural monument "Hohler Stein". The surrounding limestone quarries are bypassed, after which the return to Kallenhardt is swift.
