The Pengel-Anton cycle path uses a former railroad line, which was converted into a cycle path between 1970 and 1985 after freight traffic was discontinued. From Brilon, the route is primarily downhill, which makes it easier to pass through Rüthen and reach the district of Soest. Rüthen's historic old town can be explored along the way. As is typical of railroad lines, the route also runs in the opposite direction mostly without significant gradients. Between Rüthen, Belecke and the Möhnesee lake, you can see the varied landscape: to the north, you will find areas below the "Haar", to the south the forests of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. The route follows the Möhne to Lake Möhne and climbs up to the ridge of the Haarstrang. Before descending to the Hanseatic town of Soest, rich in sights, there is a far-reaching panoramic view of the lake and topography.

Safety guidelines

Author Tip

A fish ladder was created in the Mülheimer Schlacht area in 2014. On warm days, this is a great place for a picnic. Of course, you can also simply linger by the water and watch the fish and other small animals in the river.
