The Plettenberg History Tour XL offers a comprehensive exploration of the region's history and culture, visible in its monuments and historical sites. Many of these points are contextualized by history boards on the Plettenberg History Trail. The cycle tour includes the ascent of four hills. There are refreshment stops and rest points along the way. A reasonable level of fitness is advisable, as the route has inclines and it may be necessary to push the bike in some sections. The circular tour starts in the center of Plettenberg, follows the Elsebach stream to the Lenne and continues upstream along the Lenneradweg cycle path. After the ascent to the Burg district and the passage through Ohle and over the Ohl weir, a further ascent leads to the ruins of Schwarzenberg Castle. The route leads over hilly terrain to Pasel and the Sehnsuchtsbirke, which offers a panoramic view over the Lenne valley and the Sieselschleife with its historic hydroelectric power station. The route continues to the Oestertal dam and back to the city center via the model airfield. The tour ends with a visit to St. Laurentius Church and Böhler Church. A variety of gastronomic offerings round off the experience.

Safety guidelines

The route passes a number of interesting places that cannot be reached exclusively on cycle paths. Please observe the road traffic regulations - there are a few isolated places where cycling is not permitted and you have to push. The tour is recommended for children if they are used to hills and can cycle short sections on country roads.

Author Tip

There are several ice cream parlors, cafés, restaurants and snack bars along the route in the city area for refreshments before, during or after the tour.

The starting and finishing points can be reached via MVG line 54 or via Plettenberg station.
