The Three Castles Route, a regional cycle tour, primarily covers the urban area of Soest and the municipality of Lippetal, although it also touches on the municipal area of Welver. Along this circular route, three historic castles and manor houses present themselves as striking cultural testimonies. These include Haus Nehlen, Assen Castle and Hovestadt Castle, each of which sets architectural highlights. The route leads through characteristic landscapes of the district of Soest: the wide, fertile plains of the Soester Börde and the idyllic parkland of the southern Münsterland, which characterizes the image of the municipality of Lippetal. These contrasting backdrops offer a variety of insights into the region's nature and culture. In addition to the historic residences, the route allows you to experience several architecturally significant churches. A charming castle park invites you to explore, complemented by a nature reserve that is particularly worthy of protection and has specific ecological features. The route also passes historic mills and crosses the River Lippe and its four main tributaries from the Börde: the Soestbach, the Schledde, the Rosenau and the Ahse. These waterways are an integral part of the local hydrology and have a significant impact on the landscape. This carefully designed circular tour combines outstanding scenic beauty with a rich cultural heritage and positions itself as one of the most remarkable cycle routes in the district.
