Stones and more "Through the Hellwegbörde"

The Nordschleife forms an integral part of the "Steine und Mehr" cycle route. This tour provides a comprehensive exploration of the cultural and mining landscape of the Hellwegbörde. Detailed information is provided at numerous stations along the route. The theme of the route ranges from the development of the historically grown cultural landscape, characterized by early settlement, the use of fertile soils and the extraction and processing of mineral resources, to the in-depth recording of the geological and geological foundations of the topography and landscape structure as well as the specific natural phenomena of this region. The development, dimensions and effects of local stone mining are explained in detail. Participants also gain in-depth knowledge about green sandstone and green limestone as a building material and can appreciate the regional building culture and the diverse art objects. Finally, the route also offers moments of contemplation in the midst of an idyllic village setting. Specially designed KulTour filling stations act as central points for encounters, in-depth learning and orientation. The "Steine und Mehr" project was initiated as part of the Südwestfalen Regionale 2013 and realized with funding from the European Union's European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The starting and finishing point in Geseke is easy to reach by public transport. From the train station in Geseke, travelers can get to the neighbouring Ruhr region to join long-distance trains.

From the A44 Dortmund-Kassel, take exit 59 Geseke/Steinhausen and continue on the B1 towards Geseke.
