The region between the mountain ranges of the Sauerland and the Münsterland parkland presents itself as an attractive terrain for exploration. The largely flat, yet structurally diverse landscape of the Hellwegbörde and the Lippe valley is ideal for relaxed cycling tours. Along the historic Hellweg, the fertile Börde landscape with its characteristic farmsteads and established village structures opens up. The routes lead through flowering meadows and floodplains, follow the meanders of idyllic rivers and reveal cultural treasures alongside unspoiled nature. These include venerable castles, stately church buildings as well as historic alleyways and half-timbered houses that represent the Westphalian architectural style. Numerous gastronomic establishments offer opportunities to stop off and enjoy a culinary break, often in traditional farm cottages and inns.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer district, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the South Westphalia cycle network.

Public transit

Bad Sassendorf is easily accessible by bus (R81 Soest, R49 Möhnesee - no bicycle transport) and train (R89 Münster-Warburg). Junction 93 is approx. 600 m from the station.

How to get there

From the Ruhr area or from Kassel via the Dortmund-Kassel highway (A 44) to the Soest-Ost/Bad Sassendorf exit, then via the B475 and L856 to Bad Sassendorf. From the direction of Berlin/Hanover via the highway (A 2) to the Wiedenbrück exit, then via Lippstadt-Erwitte (B 1/L856) to Bad Sassendorf.
