The Zabel long-distance route, a regional cycle tour, runs through the Hellweg region, which is characterized by its scenic diversity and the alternation between challenging and more leisurely sections. These conditions once made it a preferred training area for a former professional cyclist. Starting in Wickede (Ruhr) and ending in Geseke, the tour is aimed at both ambitious cyclists and pleasure-oriented explorers. After the starting point in Wickede (Ruhr), the route crosses the Haarstrang. From its apex, far-reaching panoramic views open up across the Hellweg valley to the Münsterland bay. The rest of the route follows the historic Hellweg, now known as the B1, along picturesque and scenic byways. Towns such as Werl, Soest, Bad Sassendorf, Erwitte and Geseke lie along the way and offer options for sightseeing with their historically preserved old town centers. Between these urban stops, idyllic Hellweg villages also enrich the ride. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the entire route to round off the tour experience.
