Information

Directions

From the Heesfelder Mühle mill, the route leads down the Hälver to the Heesfelder Hammer, now the Lampmann sawmill. Turn left onto the road to Schalksmühle in the direction of Halver and you are now on the route of the former "Schnurre", a narrow-gauge railway line from Schalksmühle to Halver. After Carthausen, you cross the B 229 main road, follow the old route of the railroad line via the hikers' parking lot and turn onto the nature trail. Bocherplatz is on the left; this old hammer mill was the highest hydroelectric power station on the Hälverbach. From the former railroad line on the left, the trail then descends to the Herpin ponds and from there to the Herpine, an idyllic outdoor forest pool. After crossing the railroad line, turn right in Howarde in the direction of Halver-Zentrum, straight ahead along Remscheider Straße. Alternatively, you can stay on the old railroad line, which leads into Falkenstraße, which you follow to the left in a westerly direction. At the end of Falkenstraße, turn left towards Halver. After the petrol station on the left, turn right into Von-Vincke-Straße into the town center of Halver. Halver town center offers a wide range of food and drink, ice cream parlors and many sightseeing opportunities, such as the local history museum. No matter what you do, you continue from the Kulturbahnhof station, first 100 m to the right and then left over the tracks, following the old railroad line to Radevormwald. At Oesterberg, you have to leave the railroad line briefly, turn right onto the road and then left onto the cycle path towards Anschlag. Once you reach the village of Anschlag, leave the railroad line, turn right and then immediately left again to the village of Im Sumpf and downhill along unpaved forest paths along the Ennepe. Alternatively, follow the road to the left as far as the crossroads, where you turn right towards Schwenke. Cycle along the road to Eickerhöh and turn right at the bus stop onto tarred paths into Ennepetal. After the bridge, turn left and follow the (gravel) hiking trail along the Ennepe towards Büchermühle. From Büchermühle, follow the Ennepe downhill to the B 229 main road, which you cross briefly to the right and then immediately left again in the direction of Buschhausen/Löhrmühle. There are many old mills and hammer mills along the Ennepe, such as the Eichhofermühle, the Löhrmühle or the Nordeler Schleifkotten. From there, follow the course of the Ennepe towards the Ennepetalsperre dam until you reach the Buschhausen junction, where you will find the Buschhauser Hammer. Now comes the last big effort up to Buschhausen and the Kreisch sports field. From Kreisch, continue to the Höhenstraße from Breckerfeld to Halver and then turn right towards Halver. After 900 m, turn left at the restaurant "Zur Krausenbuche" in the direction of Schalksmühle. After approx. 1 km, turn right twice in the direction of Wiene. In the Othmaringhausen area before Wiene, there is another beautiful panoramic view of the Märkisches Sauerland before a steep descent into the Hälvertal begins. At the bottom, turn left and then right again back to Heesfelder Mühle.

Author Tip

The Heesfeld mill, the Herpine open-air swimming pool, the Buschhauser Hammer and the Löhrmühle mill are located directly on the route. Other excursion destinations nearby are:

Local history museum
The "Heimatstube" in the building at Von-Vincke-Straße 22 was opened to the public in 1979. From small beginnings, a great deal of personal commitment has resulted in an interesting museum that is well worth seeing and has earned praise and recognition even from museum experts. In addition to a historical classroom from around 1900, there are many agricultural tools and pictures on display. Plows, harrows, scythes and various other implements give an impression of the everyday life of farmers in earlier times. Visitors can also see pictures of the town's history and famous personalities who have made an outstanding contribution to Halver. www.halver.de

Nicolai Church
Despite all the developments over the centuries to the present-day town of Halver, the Nicolai Church on the Sternberg has remained the geographical center of the town. It was built in 1783; however, there was probably already a small church on this site around 800. A total of eight streets run in a star shape towards the church building. The gleaming white of the façade enhances its effect as the absolute focal point and a landmark of the town of Halver. The churchyard was used for burials until 1783. www.halver.de

Kulturbahnhof
Instead of being sidelined, the former station building has once again become the center of public interest. Once the hub of local public transport, it is now a stage for communication and cultural exchange. www.halver.de
