The "Biggesee" cycle route is one of the established routes in the region. Its popularity extends over the entire season, from the first mild spring days right through to the golden autumn, and reflects its long history, which is comparable to that of the Biggesta dam. The specific signposting of the "Biggesee" cycle route within the Attendorn urban area with its own themed logo highlights the local significance of this section. It is part of a comprehensive concept of the Hanseatic town of Attendorn, which includes four specific themed routes: the "Repetal" cycle route, the "Berg und Tal" cycle route and the "Ennest" cycle route. These routes are linked to each other by carefully laid out connecting paths, allowing the surrounding area of Attendorn to be cycled throughout. The circular nature of the Biggesee route, coupled with cultural attractions and a variety of places to stop for refreshments, creates a comprehensive experience that is also characterized by family-friendly sections.

Information

Directions

We would like to start our little tour at the Biggedamm in Attendorn. This was built between 1957 and 1965 and measures 52 m in height and around 640 m in length. Our tour takes us below the "Biggeblick", a landmark and viewing platform where you can gaze far into the distance. We continue along the "Waldenburg" lido, which invites you to linger in the warm sand or cool off in the Biggesee. A small restaurant provides refreshments. If you want to try out a new trend sport, you can go stand-up paddling here.Let's continue our journey in the direction of Waldenburg castle ruins. Our tour takes us along the Biggerandweg to the Bremge reservoir. Anyone who thinks there is nothing to discover in Bremge/Biggesee is wrong. There is a 200-year-old "Backes" here with an original stone oven in which fresh bread is baked at Whitsun. We continue our tour over the Sondern viaduct and ride past the "see:sicht" restaurant, which offers refreshments, drinks and a wonderful panoramic view.Back towards Attendorn, after a short descent, we are greeted by the loud roar of engines. Next to our cycle path is the "Biggegrill" snack bar, which attracts bikers from near and far.At the yacht and rowing club, our journey takes us westwards to the Lister dam. This was built in 1912. The Lister is a drinking water reservoir that stores 21.6 million m³ of drinking water. Furthermore, the Listersee is dammed higher than the Biggesee, so that you can look down on the Biggesee from the Listerstaumauer. From there, the route leads to the Schnütgenhof lido, which is open to the public and invites you to linger. The "Schnütgenhof" farm above the lido offers culinary home cooking as well as coffee and cake. At Schnütgenhof, we take the so-called "Schnütgenhof loop". This gives us a view of the good mermaid of Lake Bigge, "Attania", who watches over the "Gilberginsel" bird sanctuary. The only known breeding site for the black kite in the Olpe district is on the "Gilberginsel", popularly known as the bird island. After the mermaid "Attania" has waved us goodbye, we continue our circular tour towards Biggedamm. We are greeted by several pieces of sports equipment along the way. The so-called Movement Mile was officially opened in 2019. So if you haven't had enough exercise yet, this is the place for you. The different weight variations make a full-body workout possible for all generations. If you want to take it easy, you can swing in the sun by the Biggesee lake. After the exercise mile, we arrive at the boat landing stage in Attendorn. Here we welcome those who have taken the boat back from Sondern to Attendorn. But there is also plenty on offer here for our little ones. A large playground with lots of different climbing opportunities makes children's hearts beat faster. At the end of our round trip, we can take a final break at the lighthouse on the Biggedamm. Here we are served cool drinks and snacks.
