The Medebach - Durch das Aar- und Orketal (M3) cycle tour opens up the natural areas of the Hochsauerland district as a circular route. It runs through the Orketal and Bruehnetal nature reserves, characteristic biotopes of NRW. In the Aartal valley, there are near-natural resting points along the course of the stream, and the route also passes fish ponds integrated into the landscape. The route leads via Münden and through the Orketal valley, past the historic farmsteads of Roninghausen, which offer cultural insights into regional building methods. The route ends in the Hanseatic town of Medebach with its many refreshment stops. Partly gravel paths require suitable tires.

Information

Directions

The circular bike route is signposted throughout with a green "M3."The starting point is Medebach’s market square. From there, we turn right onto Österstraße and ride to the cemetery. We pass the cemetery, the Österntor playground, and the Nonnenkreuz on our way. We follow this road downhill into the Brühne Valley. At Faust, we then follow the road steeply uphill for about 200 meters.A descent of about 2 km awaits us, past the Faust Forest House, to the fish ponds in the Aartal valley. We then cross the Aar Bridge until we turn right into the Aartal valley. After a while, we cross the Aar via a bridge and reach a barbecue hut. From here, we follow the path toward Münden. We ride downhill into the town, then turn left just before the church onto the road to Neukirchen. Immediately after the bridge, we turn right toward the Münden sports field. After another 200 m, we turn right into the valley and continue to the end of the path before Roninghausen. Now we continue straight ahead to the Medebach/Berge wastewater treatment plant and turn right onto the Medebach-Münden road (L858). Follow the road about 100 m to the left, then turn right shortly after the bridge onto a paved dirt road. The route climbs gently through a wooded area and then continues on flat ground to the Holtischfeld industrial park. We first turn right, then left through the industrial park and soon reach the paved dirt road leading from Faust to Medebach.
