Road bike - city-country-river

The road bike tour starts with a climb to Kallenhardt, past the limestone quarry. Via Warstein, known for its brewing tradition, the route leads after another climb to Hirschberg, whose historic town center is fascinating. An extensive descent leads out of the district of Soest towards Arnsberg, crossing the Ruhr several times. The Arnsberg forest is crossed on a steady ascent to the Möhnesee lake. Along the lakeshore, the path runs along the southern and western sections to Günne. The Haarstrang river marks the division between the Sauerland and Soester Börde. A long, even descent opens up wide panoramic views over the Börde as far as Soest. From Soest, the route runs northwest to Bad Sassendorf, a renowned spa town. The route follows the main road (Bundesstraße 1), the historic Hellweg. Minor topographical changes characterize the following kilometers. After crossing the A44, the tour concludes with a moderate, steady climb that leads back to the starting point in Rüthen.

A rescue point system has been installed throughout the region (Soest district, Hochsauerland district, Märkischer district, Olpe district and Siegen-Wittgenstein district). Rescue points can be found on the information boards at the junctions of the South Westphalia cycle network.

The road bike tours of the Bike Arena Sauerland run on roads where motorized traffic is to be expected.

We recommend taking a short break in one of the many cafés in the beautiful town center of Soest.

If you arrive by train, the tour can also be started in Arnsberg or Soest as it is a round trip.
