Road bike - To the Fledermaustunnel

The road bike tour starts in Schmallenberg and initially follows an undulating profile through Haverland towards Eslohe. From there, the SauerlandRadring allows for a phase of smooth cycling. As the route continues, it passes through the Fledermaustunnel that gives the route its name. A significant drop in temperature is to be expected inside the tunnel, which makes it advisable to wear appropriate clothing. The route follows the cycle ring to Fretter. This is followed by a challenging ascent that requires physical exertion. A winding descent to Oedingen offers the opportunity to recover. Afterwards, the section to Brenschede presents a further challenge with considerable gradients. A short recovery phase to Werpe is an advantage, as the following ascent to the wind turbine, although of moderate length, has a considerable gradient and requires a concentrated riding style. After reaching the highest point, the rapid descent opens up a wide view of the Lenne valley. A highlight of the tour is the crossing of the Uentroptal valley, which stretches almost without a climb to above Fleckenberg. A dynamic descent leads into the town. At the junction with the main road, a precise change of direction is required into the Latrop valley, which the route follows for several kilometers. After a final, short ascent, the starting point of Schmallenberg is reached again.

The surrounding train stations are on average 25 minutes away from Schmallenberg by car. You can organize your onward journey to the Schmallenberg Sauerland and the Eslohe vacation region by bus:

• Autobahn 45 "Sauerlandlinie" from Dortmund, Olpe exit


• Autobahn 45 from the direction of Frankfurt/Stuttgart, Olpe exit


• Autobahn 4 Köln/Olpe, to Autobahnkreuz Wenden, continue on Autobahn 45 in the direction of Dortmund to the Olpe exit (approx. 5 km)


• Autobahn 44 from Dortmund to the Werl junction, continue on the BAB 445 towards Arnsberg to the Meschede/Enste (B55) or Wennemen exit


• Autobahn 44 from Kassel to the Erwitte/Anröchte exit


• Highway 2 Hannover-Dortmund to highway exit Paderborn continue on BAB 33
