The "Zwölf Achthunderter" tour represents a challenging cycle tour through the Sauerland, a region known for its characteristic topographical challenges. This circular route takes cyclists over a large number of peaks that clearly exceed the 800-meter mark and thus establish a high challenge profile.
The Ettelsberg in Willingen forms the start, which demands considerable effort from cyclists right from the start. The route continues over other prominent elevations, including the Langenberg. At 843 meters, this represents the highest point in North Rhine-Westphalia and is a central topographical landmark. Other challenging climbs include the Kahler Asten, the Ziegenhelle, the Hillekopf and the Hoppernkopf, which require a high level of physical fitness and mental strength.
This tour, the concept of which was published in a specialized cycling magazine, is intended as an individual route suggestion for experienced cyclists. It is not a signposted or officially maintained route, which emphasizes its exploratory character and requires independent orientation. The route therefore offers an intensive exploration of the low mountain range landscape of the Sauerland.
