Plettenberg, nestled in the Märkisches Sauerland between the Ebbegebirge and Homert mountains, is a central starting point for exploring the Lenne Valley Route - East. The landscape, characterized by wooded mountain ranges and the striking valleys of the Lenne, Else, Oester and Grüne, reveals a charming backdrop that opens up special perspectives when explored by bike. The upper reaches of the Oester with the Oestertalsperre dam are particularly aesthetically pleasing. The region is characterized by a harmonious combination of natural features and an established industrial structure, which forms the independent character of the town. Metal processing companies are just as much a part of the urban landscape here as the extensive forest areas of the Märkischer Kreis. This symbiosis of natural and economic space offers a variety of experience horizons on the Lennetalroute - East that go beyond the classic experience of nature. Cultural aspects and a differentiated regional identity can be experienced along the route in a subtle way, making every trip a multi-layered discovery.

Information

Directions

The route leads east from the station via Brauckstraße and then turns right into Bachstraße after approx. 200 m, crosses under the railroad line and then goes straight on to Kilian-Kirchhoff-Damm (Lenneroute). From here, turn left towards the road, cross it straight ahead and then follow the footpath and cycle path further upstream to the railroad bridge over the Lenne. Here you have to carry your bike up a few steps. Behind the bridge, the cycle path runs through the Lenne floodplain. Then there is a short, steep climb and you continue up the valley on a service road to the hamlet of Soen. From Soen, you cycle along a well-maintained forest road in the direction of Forsthaus Schwarzenberg. There are gradients of 7%, 9.5% and 13% to overcome. The short destination of the castle ruins can be reached on foot from here. Visitors to the castle are advised to park their bikes near the cycle path.As signposted, continue straight on to the destination of Pasel. The descent to the village in the floodplain is at moderate gradients of 4%, 6% and 10%. As with the ascent to the castle ruins, you mainly ride through forest. The village of Pasel is reached after crossing the Lenne bridge.

Oestertalsperre
At the end of the 19th century, most Plettenberg forges used water as a driving force. The production facilities had considerable problems in the summer, when the rivers did not carry enough water due to severe drought, and in the fall and winter, when the rivers became torrential due to heavy rainfall. To solve this problem, the Plettenberg industry built the dam in 1903. The first impetus for such a facility had already been given in 1886, and the actual construction of the dam began in 1903. The Oestertalsperre includes a 32-metre-high stone
quarry stone dam and two sliding towers. Swimming and water sports are permitted in parts of the reservoir. This makes the dam a popular excursion destination. www.plettenberg.de
